Operating Tips

Weather Considerations

• Side awnings are considered a sunshade and are suitable only in light winds.
• Even in calm weather, awnings should be anchored—don’t risk damage.
• If strong winds are expected, be ready to retract your awning to avoid damage.

• Hard rocky ground: use Tuff Dog Screw-In Pegs™ (included)
• Soft/muddy ground: upgrade to Big Dog Screw-In Pegs™
• Beach / sandy ground: upgrade to Sand Dog Screw-In Pegs®
• Beach note: there’s no need to use the 4x4 Anchor Plates on the beach

Why the shaped peg hole in the 4x4 Anchor Plate?
It’s designed to allow a Big Dog Peg to be used if you encounter very soft conditions.

Troubleshooting

• Peg won’t go in: confirm you’re turning counter-clockwise, apply steady downward pressure, and try a different location if the ground is too hard.
• Strap too tight/loose: adjust tension gradually—awnings need some flexibility in wind.
• Peg pulling out: conditions are too soft for Tuff Dogs—use Big Dogs.
• Awning stress: reduce strap tension; safety springs should not be distorted.
